Before you install

Four checks can cost you the grant if you miss them. All come from the program page, read Oct 22, 2026.

  • ENERGY STAR. "Heat pumps installed on or after November 26, 2025, must be ENERGY STAR certified to be eligible for a grant."
  • The installer. The company must be listed with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec. It must hold the RBQ licence for the work and belong to its trade corporation. Your invoice must show the RBQ licence number.
  • The unit. The outdoor unit needs a minimum nominal cooling capacity of 12,000 BTU/h.
  • The clock. "You must submit your request within nine months of the equipment installation date."

Federal condition, from canada.ca, read Oct 22, 2026: "Although the Rebate does not open until early 2027, the retroactivity period for the National Heat Pump Rebate starts on November 1, 2026. This means that households that meet the program's eligibility criteria and install eligible heat pumps starting on November 1, 2026, will be able to apply for the Rebate once the program launches early in 2027." The criteria, the eligible list and the rebate amounts are published only as of November 1, 2026. We have not read them yet.

Landlords and investors

LogisVert pays the owner of an eligible home, not tenants. It covers buildings up to 19 units, and apartments in buildings of 20 or more units.

For multi-unit installs from Jun 15, 2026, the top-up lifts the rate by $100 to $220 per 1,000 BTU/h. Estimate, not guaranteed. Checked Oct 22, 2026. Hydro-Québec

The modest-income stream has separate guides for owner-occupants and for tenants and landlords. We have not confirmed the landlord rule, so read the guide first. CGHAP names "homeowners and tenants" on its page.

Tenant? Send this page to your landlord. The grant goes to the owner.

What to do before 2027

  1. Pick an ENERGY STAR unit and an RBQ-licensed installer first. Get both on the quote in writing.
  2. Check the dates: the grant request is due nine months after install, and the federal rules land around Nov 1, 2026.
  3. Join the waitlist so you hear when the federal portal opens. No installation date is promised.

Quebec questions we see most

Who is eligible for the Hydro-Québec heat pump grant?

The owner of an eligible home. Tenants cannot claim it. The unit must be ENERGY STAR certified if installed on or after November 26, 2025, and the installer must hold an RBQ licence. Read the conditions on the LogisVert page, checked Oct 22, 2026.

Is there a list of eligible heat pumps in Quebec?

Our data holds the rule, not a model list. The rule is ENERGY STAR certification for installs on or after November 26, 2025. The federal eligible list is due as of November 1, 2026, and we have not read it. Ask your installer to confirm your model against the program page before you book.

How do I apply, and by when?

You send a request to Hydro-Québec after the install. The deadline is nine months from the equipment installation date. Your invoice has to show the installer's RBQ licence number. The steps are on the LogisVert page, checked Oct 22, 2026.

Can I get a free heat pump in Quebec?

The modest-income stream describes "a heat pump at no cost." We could not confirm whether it is open, so treat it as unconfirmed. Estimate, not guaranteed. Check the program guide, checked Oct 22, 2026.

Does a cold-climate unit pay more than a standard one?

Yes, on the program page. Cold-climate pays $120 per 1,000 BTU/h against $50 for ENERGY STAR, measured at -8°C. Estimate, not guaranteed. Checked Oct 22, 2026. Hydro-Québec
