Before you install

The air source rebate has two firm gates. Both come from the program page, read Oct 22, 2026.

  • The contractor. "Your contractor is registered with Efficiency Manitoba."
  • The 90 days. "This application must be submitted within 90 days of the installation date."

Three more conditions sit on the same page. It must be your primary residence, not a seasonal one. A new home is not eligible. The heat pump must not replace an existing heat pump system, and it must be a qualifying cold-climate air source unit.

For the Affordable Home Energy Program we have no conditions on file. Check the program page before you book.

Federal condition, from canada.ca, read Oct 22, 2026: "Although the Rebate does not open until early 2027, the retroactivity period for the National Heat Pump Rebate starts on November 1, 2026. This means that households that meet the program's eligibility criteria and install eligible heat pumps starting on November 1, 2026, will be able to apply for the Rebate once the program launches early in 2027." The criteria, the eligible list and the rebate amounts are published only as of November 1, 2026. We have not read them yet.

Landlords and investors

The Air Source Heat Pump Rebate page does not state a landlord rule, and it asks for a primary residence. We have not found a rule for rental units, so ask before you book.

The Affordable Home Energy Program names homeowners and renters who are income-qualified. For multi-unit projects registered by Mar 31, 2027, a 100% bonus applies to ground source incentives. Estimate, not guaranteed. Checked Oct 22, 2026. Efficiency Manitoba CGHAP names "homeowners and tenants" on its page.

Tenant? Send this page to your landlord. The air source rebate is tied to a primary residence.
