Before you install

The BC Hydro rebate has four gates. Each comes from its program page, read Oct 22, 2026.

  • The installer. "All upgrades must be installed by a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member." Self-installs are not eligible.
  • The unit. "The heat pump(s) must be listed on the rebate-eligible heat pump list."
  • The clock. "You must submit your rebate application and all supporting documentation within six months of the invoice date."
  • The funding. The rebate is "only available while funding lasts."

For the CleanBC income-qualified, Northern and FortisBC rows we have no conditions on file. Check the program page before you book.

Federal condition, from canada.ca, read Oct 22, 2026: "Although the Rebate does not open until early 2027, the retroactivity period for the National Heat Pump Rebate starts on November 1, 2026. This means that households that meet the program's eligibility criteria and install eligible heat pumps starting on November 1, 2026, will be able to apply for the Rebate once the program launches early in 2027." The criteria, the eligible list and the rebate amounts are published only as of November 1, 2026. We have not read them yet.

Landlords and investors

The BC Hydro page does not state a landlord rule. We have not found one, so ask before you book.

The CleanBC income-qualified program is clearer. Renters need a landlord consent form. Accounts in a landlord's or strata's name are not eligible. It is for a primary residence only. CGHAP names "homeowners and tenants" on its page.

Tenant? Send this page to your landlord. Their consent form is the first step.

What to do before 2027

  1. Find your installer on the HPCN list, then ask for the exact model on the rebate-eligible list.
  2. Keep the invoice date in view. Your application clock starts there.
  3. Join the waitlist to hear when the federal portal opens. No installation date is promised.
